The KV Tennis Club is a non-profit organization. Through its elected committee of volunteers it leases the courts from Shoalhaven Council, manages and maintains the courts and aims to make them conveniently available at reasonable cost for use by club members and non-members of all ages and tennis abilities. Non-members include Valley tourists, students from the Primary School and from Scots College Glengarry campus.
The Club is situated in Riverside Park adjacent to the Community Centre, Ambulance Station and Rural Fire Brigade. There are four courts: two hard courts and two synthetic grass courts. The Club has around 100 members, 60 of whom participate in the A and B division doubles competitions held on Thursday and Wednesday nights respectively.
Adult club members pay an annual membership fee of $80, spouse/partners pay $40, juniors 18 years and under pay $20. This entitles them to use the courts to play tennis whenever they wish at no additional cost. They reserve courts by booking at the village Newsagency (ph 4465 1512). The Newsagency has a list of members and has a key to the courts which is borrowed and returned. A member's friends and guests can also play at no cost providing the member is present. The membership fees include registration with Tennis NSW which includes player insurance.
Non-members, including Valley tourists, can also use the courts during the day by hiring them for a $20 hourly fee at the Newsagency. The hire fees are retained by the Club, and together with the membership fees and competition fees, are used to lease the courts from Council, fund court maintenance, pay for insurance, pay electricity bills and other expenses relating to the management of the courts.
Bookings are on a first come first served basis, but there are a number of regular long term bookings: the Club uses all four courts on Wednesday and Thursday nights for club competitions,; three courts are in use each Wednesday morning for senior men's tennis and one on Thursday morning for senior women's tennis etc. Despite the regular bookings there are usually ample courts available for use by members and for casual hire.
